My name is
Michael J. Scarchilli and I have been in a creative world for many years. I'm proud of the fact that almost every single thing I learn on computers is self taught up to and including web development and graphic design.
I've always been the creative type you could say. I was always taking art and music classes throughout my pre college days which eventually landed me at a music college to study music education with a concentration on vocal performance. Yep, I used to be a classical and operatic singer believe it or not. I'm not sure how but since my Dad was into building web pages I landed in a web page building class... that was part of the music school. No idea why it was part of the music school, but oh well. This is where I built my first web page. I can't say it was all that fantsy pantsy but it was good for what I need to do. I swear that my Dad did not do it for me!
Over the years I gradually learned more about building web pages as a hobby as well as graphical programs. Building my first post college personal web page helped me with this. I spent many hours scratching my head, yelling at the computer among other pointless activities as I quickly learned that computers really don't react to anything other than actually doing the right thing. They are quirky like that I guess. So I forced myself into learning as much as I could in my free time.
For a while I had a stint working in the movie industry on sets as that was my original passion in life. But as we all know life throws us some twists every now and then. Due to a car accident and already having surgery on one shoulder it was time to move on while still young. I have to admit I was a little bitter at first, but looking back I'm happy with where I have landed. Back to web pages, graphics and art!
Working at a small but national company really helped hone my skills. Dealing with people from four different locations throughout the U.S. was an interesting experience. Since I was at the corporate location most things and people utilized me the most there. Working on a daily basis with my trusty Wacom tablet and projects flying at me left and right, I was in workaholic bliss. Over almost three years my skills have grown immensely from that job and that's something I can take with me from now on.
I always have the need to gain more knowledge and am always willing to try new projects. If I don't know what I'm doing when I start, then what a great opportunity to learn something new. Resources in this day and age are abundant and I plan on taking full advantage of them for a long time. So before I babble on too long... even though I somewhat have already I will conclude with this. I give my father a lot of credit for my computer skills today. His interest in computers started me off young which is priceless in my book. I even remember when we bought this new thing called a mouse! I really like what I do and find that to be very important. Work is work and not always fun, but when you like what you do it makes it all worth it in the end.
